The need for an efficient system of transportation increases, as global trade becomes a more and more important part of the world economy. The Danish shipping industry is responsible for the major part of the transportation by sea between Europe and the US and also a substantial part of the shipping between US and Asia. Since 9/11 there has been increased focus on homeland security, and threats from the sea are considered among the more pertinent. The need for higher security necessitates cooperation between Department of Defense and the Danish shipping-industry to ensure a smooth transportation in and out of the US. In the American-Danish Business Council the shipping-industry meets with governmental offices to coordinate efforts to secure the American border with the least amount of inconvenience to the line of transportation.

The Chairman of this committee is Mr. Gene Pentimonti, Senior Vice President for Government Relations, Maersk.
